Here are our recommendations to choose your canopy and get a safe progression.
Please remember that this is the fastest possible progression. That doesn't mean that it is the best one. There is more and more skydivers that do more than 150 jumps a year and/or are also paragliders or speedflyers, etc. All these young skydivers are attracted by canopy piloting, but they have to keep in mind that in our sport, the canopies that we use can take way more vertical speed than in any of other aeronautic sports !
Also, you may know that some countries could add some restrictions on this progression.
Progression in 3 steps from +30 jumps to +1000 jumps:
Now you know what category of canopy we recommend you to fly with, here is the Wing Load that corresponds:
Now you know what Wing Load we recommend you to fly with, you have to select the size that corresponds:
- Safire 3, from 1.0 to 1.5 max!
- Crossfire 3, from 1.5 to 2.0 max and only if the skydiver is doing at least 150 jumps per year + with the authorisation of an instructor.
* This is the tricky moment! The safest is to reach 2.0 with a Crossfire 3 before flying a tri-cell. So keep flying your Crossfire 3 with the maximum Wing Load for at least 200 jumps !
THEN, YOU ARE READY TO FLY HIGH PERFORMANCE CANOPIES!
** Tri-cell canopies, if the skydiver is doing at least 200 jumps per year + with the authorisation of an instructor. We also recommend for a logical progression, to use a JFX for 2.1 to 2.3, then a JVX for 2.3 to 2.5
YET YOU WANT MORE THAN A FULLY LOADED JFX OR JVX?!
*** Yes, you have +2000 Jumps, so you can go for a Leia!
That doesn't mean that you have to, to be cool, but you have the skills to try one. Please do it before ordering one for you and keep in mind that every Leia or Petra pilots are doing more than 500 jumps a year !!!
This is a fastest progression we could recommend. It is not for everybody! Obviously, it is difficult to change his canopy often enough to follow all these steps, so keep in mind that if you follow an even more radical path, you will be in higher danger.

THEN, YOU ARE READY TO FLY HIGH PERFORMANCE CANOPIES!

Here are our recommendations to choose the sail that best suits you and to progress in safety.
Thank you for realizing that this is the fastest progress we can make. That doesn't mean it's the best. There are more and more people who make more than 150 jumps a year and/or who are also paragliders or speedflyers, etc. All these young skydivers are attracted by canopy flying, but we must integrate the fact that in the world of aeronautical sports, sport parachuting canopies are the ones that have the ability to reach the highest vertical speeds!
Also, find out about the countries in which you practice. Some of them require you to follow additional restrictions to this progression.
Progression in 3 steps from +30 jumps to +1000 jumps:
Now that you know your category, here is the corresponding Wing Load:
Now that you know your Charge Alaire, find the sail size that fits:
- Safire 3, from 1.0 to 1.5 max!
- Crossfire 3, from 1.5 to 2.0 max and only if the skydiver makes at least 150 jumps per year + agreement of an instructor.
* This is the tricky part ! In order to continue to fly safely, it is essential to reach the maximum wing loading of the Crossfire 3, i.e. 2.0, and to perform at least 200 jumps with this load/sail size before flying in a tri-cell canopy.
YOU HAVE THE EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE SAILS!
** Tri-cell canopies, if the skydiver makes at least 200 jumps per year + agreement of an instructor. We recommend for better consistency to fly JFX from 2.1 to 2.3, then JVX from 2.3 to 2.5. But you can fly these canopies from 2.1 to 2.5 without any problem. (The JVX flies faster on the trajectory and carries big loads more easily).
YOU WANT EVEN MORE PERFORMANCE THAN A JFX/JVX AT MAX LOAD?
*** Yes, if you have +2000 jumps you can fly a Leia!
This doesn't mean you have to do it to be cooler, but you have enough experience to try one. We invite you to do so before you order one. Remember that Leia and Petra's pilots all make more than 500 jumps a year!!!
This is the fastest progression we can recommend. It's not for everyone! It obviously involves many stages and therefore many sail changes. Of course it is not easy. Changing sails takes time to adapt. If to save time you choose a more radical progression you put yourself in danger.
